Zoe Leonard’s Inspiring Photos

After working with clothes for the last 14 years, coming up with fresh concepts on how to display pieces for windows, editorials or just around the shop can pose a daily challenge. On our continuous search for inspiration we came upon Zoe Leonard’s work, an artist/photographer born and raised in New York. After dropping out of school at 15, she started taking pictures of her surroundings, which for the most part, consisted of NYC. Among her work, we couldn’t help to connect to the series where she portrays clothes displayed on markets and fairs, always with a keen sense for capturing fabric based volumes and shapes, otherwise elusive to the untrained eye. Here are some of our favourites from her book “Analogue”.

Margiela SS12 Looks

Hosted by the Trianon, Maison Martin Margiela presented a strikingly solid SS12 menswear collection. Carrying on the brand’s trademark twists on classic silhouettes, visual appeal and materials, the show had a voyeuristic feel to it, with sheer layers revealing hidden patterns and linings. Checks, stripes and polka dots made their way into suits, jackets, parkas and scarves, the latter being a central piece on several looks. As usual, browse the looks by clicking on the main image.

Found Photo… Take it for a Spin

Fresh out of our found photo stash, here’s something for all you cycling enthusiasts. Whenever protective gear is not an issue, it’s nice to remember that your everyday garments are a great alternative to ride in style. You don’t have to go full on Italian in a double breasted pinstripe suit and felt hat, but check the young man in this picture: high cuffed slacks and rolled up sleeves, topped off with lots of attitude and personality… just look at those thick framed spectacles and hairdo.

For SS12, Adam Kimmel introduces some new footwear options perfectly in synch with his surfer collection. Inspired by desert boots, both models feature premium suede laced uppers mounted on lightweight micro rubber soles and a stitched welt. While the boot has a folded cuff and a pull tab at the back, the shoe presents some contrast binding at the top along with cut out details at heel.
With clean, simple lines the new styles come up as a nice alternative for an everyday casual look when paired up with some rolled up jeans, dress pants or even some shorts.

Por Vocação presents… Joining Giachi Video

Following our collaboration with Buttero, Paolo Giachi, the architect responsible for their Milan shop, challenged us to do a video about his widespread work and international career.
In his mid 40′s, Giachi’s curriculum is indeed quite impressive having worked for fashion’s top names, like the Prada Group, Louis Vuitton, Fendi, Brioni or Jimmy Choo, to name but a few. Alongside amazing residential projects, his worldwide experience in retail is ultimately something he can really brag about, with works in almost every continent and an highly demanding and ever growing clientele. As Giachi so eloquently puts it ” I’ve built a shop almost everywhere… everywhere where there are shops.”
For us, this was another great challenge, paired with similar works we’ve been continuously producing after the “A day with the Buttero Family” video and, who knows, maybe a new direction to follow…

Raf Simons Long Tartan Jacket

As you probably know Raf Simons SS12 collection is all about checks and other statement pieces. A real standout on the runway, was this tartan jacket that just about sums up Raf Simons’ most important message: pride in individuality. Finely cut from a lightweight technical fabric and featuring a checked pattern of greens, blues, red, black and white, the jacket has several diagonal seams which cleverly double as pockets at the front. A truly amazing piece that further embodies Raf’s constant quest for innovation and the research for new fabrics and shapes that build his avant-garde, contemporary vision of menswear.
