Another interesting story this monday involves one of our favorite designers, the London Olimpics and cycling. Paul Smith’s love for bikes is well documented, wether by his life’s background or current collaborations. So well in fact, that he was asked by the London 2012 Olympics to do an introductory video on the city’s new Olympic Velodrome. Enthusiastic as ever, Sir Paul shares his long enduring passion with us all.

Band of Outsiders X The Oscars Bow Tie
Apparently, or so has our friends at Post New tell us, Band of Outsiders has sent Brad Pitt, George Clooney, Gary Oldman and other Academy Award Nominees, a clip on bow tie with a fortune cookie reading “He who wears Band of Outsiders bow tie wins important award”. As with any good old prediction, they had a pretty good chance of scoring at least one of the night’s winners and, as it turned out, it happened twice with Woody Allen and Alexander Payne getting both a BOO bow tie and the highly sought golden statue.

Behind the Scenes… Raf Simons AW12 Show, part I
On the second round of our Behind the Scenes special feature, we share our exclusive coverage from the backstage preparation and runway action at the Raf Simons show during Paris Men’s Fashion Week. Held at Maison des Metallos and named Run Fall Run, the AW12 show had Depeche Mode’s Personal Jesus as soundtrack and saw Raf bring back the youth culture and street style references he is widely known for introducing into menswear fashion. He also delivered a new silhouette for man, by playing with volumes, oversized garments, the use of extensive layering and brought out a striking new shape of hats. Here’s how it all went down…
1. Prepping the room. Last details being sorted out with name tags already placed on the benches. As models start to arrive, time for hair and make-up.

Behind the Scenes… Raf Simons AW12 Show, part V
5. Just minutes before the show and, with models all dressed up, time for a couple more backstage shots under dim lights. Room is ready with everybody seated, the show can start. Models rush thru the runway for about ten minutes and Raf pops up at the end to salute the crowd.

Buttero SS12 Round Toe Derby Shoes
We’ve shown our love for Tuscan based shoe brand Buttero several times over the last year, up to the point of paying them a visit and making a short video about their history. Nonetheless, it’s when the new packages arrive at the shop that we really go head over heels over their footwear. Their SS12 collection is packed with new models as well as tweaked versions of old favourites such as sneakers or boat shoes. Among the new releases are these amazing four eyelet round toe derby shoes with sturdy leather soles. Available in two colorways using different types of premium vegetable tanned leather, taupe with suede uppers and black with leather uppers, they’re the perfect alternative to sport all year round. Leather laces and lined interiors add the final touch to these unique shoes.

Barena Cavana Toggle Coat Light Blue
Although we’re always eager about the arrival of each season’s collections, this one is getting us particularly excited as new brands are making their debut here at the shop. One of the most antecipated is Venice based Barena, known for their simple, yet sophisticated garments made from the finest Italian fabrics. Among the first drops is this snugg fitting shawl collar toggle coat in a light wash denim fabric. Combining several elements such as the short length, contrasting knitted collar, rope and wooden toggles and two deep patch pockets, this unique coat is perfect as a transition piece or simply for those chilly Summer afternoons.

Valentine’s Day Staff Playlist
You didn’t think we would let this one slip by, did you?! (not this year at least…). Up next are some of our favorite love/hate songs for Valentine’s Day. Remember, just because they’re love songs doesn’t mean they have to have the L.O.V.E. word in the name. For anybody hoping to find some Céline Dion or similar stuff, better look elsewhere for it. And don’t get us wrong, we do love Céline, just not Dion.
Still about the songs, some are old, others new, some merely unexpected. Just enjoy…
3. Cass McCombs – “The Lonely Doll”
4. Los hermanos – “O Velho e o Moço”
5. Joy Division – “Love Will Tear Us Apart”

Perception Window
On this sale window, we wanted to play with perception, in a sense that an image can mean so many different things, depending on information, personal background or simply from where you physically stand. For us, it was also about communicating the end of something, a season, a stock, the end of a difficult year when people are looking to the future with uncertainty.
The purpose of a window display is always to attract people, to provoke their senses, stimulate a response. Guess we’ve achieved that, with national TV news coverage and all the feedback we got from the street.
Behind it though, was a much more optimistic viewpoint, available for those who were curious enough to look further and find out that, what at first looks one thing may turn out to be another. In the end, the message is much more airy, simple and fun.
