We were at RTP’s 5 Para a Meia Noite tv show, and talked to Nilton about marketing, creativity, window displays and our latest projects.

Buttero has long been paving its way into menswear stardom with its raw and clean approach to footwear, validated early on by a huge presence in the Japanese market and with their quintessential Tanino style enjoying widespread acclamation.
The ever-growing retail collaboration between Buttero and the now turned creative marketing agency Por Vocação, has led to the revamp the Italian brand’s Milan shop, a work which included all window display area as well as the shop’s overall interiors and showroom.
For the window display and as the alongside video details, big light boxes were placed at floor level and used as background for a moving light play, allowing multiple interchangeable layouts throughout the season. The use of highly faceted vintage glass lights, somewhat reminiscent of Italy’s Murano glass work tradition, aim to (literally) reflect the full intention of a vibrant, eye-catchy window display meant for a typically darker season, when colors and materials are often toned down or lackluster.
With only two locations across the globe, one in Tokyo and this one in Milan’s Corso Garibaldi (one of the city’s current trendiest districts) Buttero is progressively stepping up its game as one of the coolest footwear providers around.

The new shopping paradigm: are we facing the death of physical retail?
As a recognition of our background work and experience on creative retail consultancy, an invitation for a TED talk came along recently, in which on the subject of window display, we had the chance to expose some of our main concerns about what’s currently happening to retail. Our CEO Pedro Caride shared his ideas on how the “experience” factor will definitely impact consumer shopping behavior and act as a savior of traditional retail and how window displays and creativity can play a decisive role in this “experience”, by being original, striking and at the same time, low cost…

Unless you’re a die hard Mod, one of the Beatles or Purple’s Olivier Zahm, we bet Chelsea boots have been pretty much off your radar these past seasons. Yes, we all remember watching 60s cinema icon David Hemmings rocking his favorite pair on Antonioni’s masterpiece Blow Up, matching some high waist, short hemmed white jeans, but it stopped there. And although Hedi Slimane’s vision for the modern man had already tried to bring them back in AW05 for Dior, and now again (apparently) in AW13 for Saint Laurent, nothing was really going on our highly fashion cultured heads until Buttero decided to jump on the Chelsea boot train, right?!?
The renowned Italian shoe maker re-introduces the archetypal boot style in a clean elongated shape, with a slightly pronounced upper front section, outlined by a slim leather sole and preferring a lower heel, instead of the cuban version. Side metal zips for easy foot access, leather insoles and sewn leather soles complete this new model for SS13, which is offered in a truly amazing deep tan color, just impossible to resist…

Buttero always had a sweet spot for a) boat shoes and b) adding contrast detailing to their footwear. While last year, the italian brand introduced the color welt/braided rope version, creating some kind of middle ground between a boat shoe and an espadrille, for this year’s styles they’ve kept the welt all white, providing contrast to some canvas detailing that runs at middle height around the uppers.
Two versions are available for these, the laced raised cuff model crafted from premium taupe suede with a royal blue canvas contrast and, a lower version made from their celebrated unfinished tan leather, matched with army green canvas detailing. Excellent quality and finishings as expected, with both styles being mounted on a virgin rubber crepe sole. Get yours here

Number two on the list of promotional videos we made for renowned Italian architect Paolo Giachi, this new video focuses on his moving to San Diego California for six months, to teach an interior design course at the New School of Architecture and Design (NSAD).
For us, it highlights one of the things we are moving on to do next as part of our change of direction.

With these two styles, we welcome our Buttero selection for SS13.
Picking up on one of the brand’s most sought after models, the perforated low top sneaker, the Italian footwear maker ads some bright color detailing to the top edges, punched side holes and back puller tab, in a brilliant update to the standard shape for the upcoming season. Available in a off white shade with vivid orange edging or dark brown with Klein blue outlines, up to you…

Here’s some pics from our latest Window Display following the season’s theme.
This new Window is basically a continuation of the two before (Xmas and Sale), as we somehow managed to make three consecutive window displays reusing the same card boxes and lights, with only minor changes to the layout.
Wishing you all a Happy Valentine’s Day!

After 15 years in the business, this will be our last season as a shop.
We would like to thank all our loyal customers and followers for their continuous patronage and support. A word of appreciation also to the wonderful people we had the pleasure of working with at the brands and some of which are now good friends.
Marking a clear change, we will now move on in a different direction, focusing on some other related areas, which had been long running at the foreground. These new projects include Digital Marketing, Window Display, Brand Management Consulting, Art Direction, Promotional Video, Product Photography and Benchmarking.
Stay tuned for more, soon.

Our AW12 Christmas Window draws inspiration from simple everyday things like cardboard boxes, a rug and seasonal christmas lights.
The nearly 2000 small light bulbs, inserted in each individually punched hole, create a dramatic effect at our shop’s entrance and to all those walking or driving by. We thank Tricana for the beautiful carpet.

Another one of our selected products for this year’s Xmas Collabs is Sovina artisanal brew. Actually meaning miser or cheapskate in Portuguese, Sovina was the name chosen by small local company, The Three Brewers to brand their 100% malt artisanal gourmet beer, genuinely crafted through brewer’s yeast using only traditional methods.
Offering several types of bottled brew, from Amber to India Pale Ale and a very special (10% alcohol) Christmas edition, Sovina is available in two different sizes, with the care and dedication that was put into the making of the beer extending also to the classy bottle and sleek packaging design. All of this makes Sovina a pretty standout and surely enjoyable gift this Christmas.

Following last year’s tradition, we bring you a selected group of treats aimed at easing your task of finding that special Christmas gift for those closer to your heart. On this temporary collaborations project we suitably dub as Xmas Collabs, we like to come up with the work of local people we admire or think have something relevant to offer.
This is the case of Oficina Arara, a small artist collective aimed at bringing back the long lost poster print aura, admittedly going against what they like to call, the prevailing “graph trash”. While their works can be described as counter culture, with an often subversive and always playful outlook, one other thing that sets them apart is that, contrarily to current printing processes, all posters are manual screen printed originals, filled with as many variations possible, which makes these even more unique.

“Throughout the XVII century, as the craze for things oriental swept Europe, tea became part of the way of life…” – this is how Mad et Len introduces their new Thé de Qualité range.
After dazzling us with their evolving range of body fragrances and home scents, it was time for the small french parfumeur to expand and delight us even further, with a new selection of teas that extend from classical Mate or Black to traditional Japanese senchas.
Staying true to the same principles of artisanal limited edition production they apply to their fragrances, Mad et Len chooses only the basic and finest raw materials to deliver their exceptional quality teas, in an effort to get as further away of mass consumerism as they can.
Offered in the brand’s signature black apothecary jars, the new Thé de Qualité line is now available in store and online.

Italian brand Boglioli has joined forces with ts(s) Japanese designer Takuji Suzuki to produce a series of special outerwear garments for the current AW12 season. Among these, we can find this tinto in capo (garment dyed) overcoat, bringing together one of Boglioli’s most characteristic techniques and Suzuki’s unconventional approach to menswear. The coat’s herringbone wool mix fabric is complemented by an irregular front closure using real wood toggles while shoulder patches are asymmetrically placed. A definitely offbeat design, as most of the duffle’s classic elements are intentionally out of place or played with, making this a truly unique piece.

It really comes as no surprise at this point, to say that Buttero has been delivering some serious footwear options this AW12, with their latest addition to the mix being these colored sole desert boots. With brown, blue and taupe premium suede uppers, the inside of the boots is smartly fitted with the brand’s custom wool lining. However, the main focus really goes for the crepe rubber soles, which are individually hand painted in bright shades of green and blue, making these another great and colorful option for cold Winter days.
