Margiela Contrast Silk Pocket Tees

Always keeping up with a highly creative and more twisted side of things, Maison Margiela introduces us their own version of the contrast pocket tee featuring the same silk patterned fabric they’ve used on the SS12 pocket squares. The t-shirts are offered in both black or grey, cut from premium cotton and with other details including a ribbed crew neck and Margiela’s signature white basting stitches at top back.
Although there’s not so many things you can do to have a t-shirt stand out just the right way, the gifted people at Margiela manage to make it happen… again.

New Balance Window

It was only appropriate to commemorate the return of New Balance to the shop by dedicating one of our windows to its timeless sneakers. With a constant flow of new models coming in, as well as old ones in different shades, we decided to play around with the variety of colors we have in stock and convey a message of individuality and self expression: choose your own. To do so, we customized a few defective pairs by painting them over and creating a paint track through the window and store front. Here’s how it turned out…

ts(s) SS12 Looks

Taking advantage of standout fabrics like high-density cotton gabardine, lyocell cotton ramie or Indian pigment dyed madras plaid, designer Takuji Suzuki brings us a new selection of well cut and amazingly constructed garments for SS12. A recurring theme with ts(s) is the reference to work clothes, well stated by the presence of items such as the tool apron, the cropped pants or the Samue shirt jacket, with this one being acknowledged as the work clothing of Japanese Buddhist monks. Work mentions aside, the below styles largely reflect the the designer’s sensitivity as well as the brand’s forward and unique take on men’s fashion today.

Band of Outsiders SS12 Striped Polo Shirts

Part of the This is not a polo shirt line, these new polo shirts from Band of Outsiders are indeed much more than that, with their retro feel, colorful pattern combinations and the use of a light knitted fabric from Japan’s leading textile company A-Girl’s, known for their high quality and one of a kind products. The word on these is that the fabric is so cool because it’s specially made in a traditional loop wheel machine that allows the operator to alter the stripe pattern by hand during the knitting process in order to achieve a weird, wavy stripe. In this case however, Scott an his band have taken it even further with an unconventional design for the stripes, which overlap each other by means of stitching, further enhancing the wavy effect. With classic rib on collar and cuffs, front pocket, snug fit and all that jazz, this is a truly special item for Summer so don’t miss out!

Boglioli Double Faced Kurabo Fabric Shirt

Although most commonly associated with high end unstructured jackets, Boglioli is much more than a one trick poney. Their knowledge on fabrics and fit is also put to good use when it comes to sleek pants and one of a kind shirts. Showing just that is one of the season’s favourites here at the shop; this double faced supersoft Japanese Kurabo cotton shirt, featuring a multicolored seasonal plaid with large white and blue gingham on the inside. Half-length front button placket and buttoned cuffs add the final details to this outstanding piece.
Just remember to roll those sleeves up to show the contrasting fabric.

Raf Simons SS12 Show Video

For SS12, Raf Simons presented a series of bold check patterns, vivid colors and flower motifs underlined by his usual black slim silhouette. Shapes were straight and sharply tailored with long boxy jackets and vests featuring diagonal seams, X crosses or large back pleats. Fabrics went from crisp, almost gabardine like nylons for the outerwear to soft knitted cotton on tops and trousers, and supple leathers on the statement color block vests. Moving on to the footwear department, Raf’s strong signature shoes were heavily adorned with golden chains. Watch the video from the show to have a better idea.

Zoe Leonard’s Inspiring Photos

After working with clothes for the last 14 years, coming up with fresh concepts on how to display pieces for windows, editorials or just around the shop can pose a daily challenge. On our continuous search for inspiration we came upon Zoe Leonard’s work, an artist/photographer born and raised in New York. After dropping out of school at 15, she started taking pictures of her surroundings, which for the most part, consisted of NYC. Among her work, we couldn’t help to connect to the series where she portrays clothes displayed on markets and fairs, always with a keen sense for capturing fabric based volumes and shapes, otherwise elusive to the untrained eye. Here are some of our favourites from her book “Analogue”.

Margiela SS12 Looks

Hosted by the Trianon, Maison Martin Margiela presented a strikingly solid SS12 menswear collection. Carrying on the brand’s trademark twists on classic silhouettes, visual appeal and materials, the show had a voyeuristic feel to it, with sheer layers revealing hidden patterns and linings. Checks, stripes and polka dots made their way into suits, jackets, parkas and scarves, the latter being a central piece on several looks. As usual, browse the looks by clicking on the main image.
